On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we discuss the concept of fan service. HBO Max is bringing back Mel and Danny for Lethal Weapon 5, rebooting Under Siege, Ghostbusters: Afterlife basically echoes the plot of the first one, Blade Runner and Aliens are both coming back with new TV series, Spider-Man: No Way Home is bringing back characters from other franchises, and Star Wars has been steeped in serving fans for the past decade. So when is it TOO MUCH fan service, and when do they hit it just right?

Also this week: we return to Movie Manners with our thoughts on kids in theaters, reviews of The Wheel of Time, Tick, Tick... BOOM, and Psych 3: This Is Gus. Then we launch into a lengthy, spoiler-laden discussion on the recent nostalgia explosion that is Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Twenty years later and it feels like there couldn't have possibly been a time when Harry Potter didn't exist.

The books, the core films, the spin-offs, the actors, the score, the endless consumerism - there is hardly anything the Potter-verse hasn't touched in some way or another. More than anything, though, the impact on the lives of children and adults alike. The youths who read the books and could fantasize about receiving their own letter; the children who were the same age as the characters and actors and literally grew up together; and the adults and parents who watched their children and their children's children grow up and explore the world of magic.

Regardless if you adore or couldn't care less of the franchise, it's impossible to deny that it is truly remarkable.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we discuss all things Harry Potter, including the books' translation to film, the impeccable casting for the films, our preferred Dumbledore, how/if J.K. Rowling's recent controversy has impacted our enjoyment, and acknowledgment that it's our (Americans) fault we can't have anything nice.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we discuss the concept of movie stingers, those post-credits scenes so many Marvel films love to throw at us these days. A stinger is typically short clip that appears after all or some of the closing credits have rolled and sometimes a movie has seemingly ended. But is this trend getting a bit tired? Or has it become a movie necessity? Also, AfterCredits.com is a great tool for determining which films have stingers attached, per Troy's recommendation in this episode.

Also this week: our news round-up touches on the loss of Dean Stockwell and Disney's IMAX-enhanced Marvel films for Disney+, reviews of The Feast and Clerk, and then a lengthy discussion on Marvel's latest blockbuster, Eternals.

Every holiday season, we discuss those family-filled, festive films and what we like or loathe about them. Not all can be as perfect as Die Hard, after all. And every year, Hollywood doesn’t listen. Also this week: we discuss the Boondock Saints III news, spoiler-free reviews of Violet, Ida Red, Last Night in Soho, The Beta Test, Antlers, upcoming releases including the Eternals, and movie/tv recommendations from the hosts.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, Dune and the concept of cliffhangers in film. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is truly only half of the story as the film builds right up to an understated cliffhanger, therefore the majority of this film is setting up the characters and the story for what’s to come. Villeneuve has a plethora of talent to pluck from, as there is not an actor present not bringing their A-game to the occasionally confounding vernacular inherent to this world. Visually stunning, but is it a great film? Take a listen as we dissect the overall film, as well as debate the concept of ending your film on a bonafide cliffhanger.

Also this week: we discuss the recent walkout in response to Dave Chappelle's Netflix special, The Closer, and the absolute tragedy that took place on the set of the independent film, RUST, where a senseless accident claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we have devoted our entire show to one man: Bond, James Bond. From Dr. No through No Time To Die, we debate who of the original James Bonds has worn the tux the best. Sean Connery or Daniel Craig are easy favorites, but what about Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, and Timothy Dalton? Where is their love? And don't forget about David Niven. We discuss each iteration of this classic character in detail, as well as our appreciation for what each of them brought to the role.

But we are not stopping there! Our Movie Battle Royale returns as we whittle down 8 wonderful choices for the role of James Bond to determine who should be the next 007! Maybe Idris Elba or Richard Madden? Perhaps Tom Hardy or James McAvoy? You'll have to listen to find out who is ultimately determined to be the next great James Bond!

As we wrap-up our show, we finally dive into Daniel Craig's last foray as the greatest spy to ever live in No Time To Die. There is much to discuss on his latest film, and we can't wait to share our thoughts on Craig's concluding chapter.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we're discussing actors who have played multiple roles in the same property. Whether it be twins or just multiple parts ala Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy or Tom Hardy, actors playing dual roles in films has been a Hollywood staple for decades. We discuss our best examples of an actor playing multiple parts that worked fantastically, and the worst examples of it, where it painfully did not work.

Also this week: we discuss the revival of movie theatres, Scarlett Johansson's win over Disney, upcoming releases including Daniel Craig's No Time to Die, The Manor, Detention, and American Insurrection; spoiler-free reviews of South of Heaven and Venom: Let There Be Carnage before getting spoiler-y; and the return of our "How Do You Survive?" game, horror edition.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we're discussing some of the weird casting choices to come out of Hollywood - the good and the bad - like a 30 year old playing teenager Evan Hansen, Tom Cruise playing the 6' 5" Jack Reacher, Gary Oldman playing a dwarf in Tiptoes, or Miles Teller playing pretty much anyone. Weird is a relative term, and we debate these odd choices, for better and worse.

Also this week: we dissect the daunting lawsuit from Marvel to its creators as a means of retaining the rights to Avengers characters from copyright termination, discussion on Netflix's TUDUM event, movie & tv news, upcoming releases including Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Black as Night, and spoiler-free reviews of Coming Home in the Dark, Witch Hunt, and Flanagan's new Netflix series Midnight Mass, and Troy posits a "What Would've Happened" scenario for the group.
