Summer Movies of 2016 is officially in the bag, so how was it? Many people have complained that this was one of the worst summers in memory, was it really that bad, or are moviegoers suffering from too much awesome?

We debate 2016 at length – where it stood, what was lacking, which franchises were born and which need to be put out to pasture, and even our own favorite summer movie experiences. We then cap it all off with our annual Summer Movie HO Awards!

Every once in a while, a sequel comes along that makes you sit back, take stock, and wonder, “What the hell is Hollywood thinking?!”

Our topic this week is unnecessary sequels, why do we have them? Not the worst sequels, mind you, we are talking about the most UNNECESSARY sequels ever made. Movies where the original didn’t even do well financially, it’s been too many years, the original stars didn’t return, or maybe the story was already complete. Those movies where, by most standards of reasoning, a sequel shouldn’t even be a thought. And ultimately, what IS the most unnecessary movie sequel ever?

One of our most popular topics is our Movie Battle Royale. Eight great movies walk into the ring, eight favorites or classics. We then begin the process of voting for the best of the best, until we are left with one. Final. Champion. The greatest film of that genre in the known HO universe.

This time, we’re storming the beaches of Hollywood to identify the Greatest War Movie. What film about war spoke to us all the most? Could it be the heartbreak of Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan? How about the brutal tragedy in Platoon? Perhaps we’ll get a bit more classical with The Longest Day? But you can never rule out the power of Shakespeare in Henry V. This week, all bets are off and the battle is on as we settle this debate once and for all.
