What is better storytelling in telvision: Procedurals or Serialized? Television has continued to evolve, as we as a culture have. Where we once sat together every night as a complete family unit, only watching whatever safe TV show was on one of our 3 channels, we now have THOUSANDS of options every night on hundreds of network, cable, and streaming channels. As television has evolved, so has how it is told. One of our listeners, Rex, recently asked us to discuss the differences between procedural and serialized television. Specifically, what are the positives and negatives to both? As we dive into it, we also discuss our favorites in both and what makes them so exceptional in this regard. Join in on the discussion and listen to this very topic on the latest episode of The Hollywood Outsider. Also discussed on this episode of The Hollywood Outsider Movie and TV Podcast:

“Tomorrowland” follows Casey (Britt Robertson), a teen prodigy with a NASA engineer dad and an abundance of curiosity. After a random encounter with a mysterious pin that seems to transport her to a magical world, Casey sets off to find a former boy-genius inventor Frank (George Clooney), who could possibly help her solve this elusive enigma. They set off on a journey of dire circumstances, yet also one of hope. For this special episode of The Hollywood Outsider, Aaron is joined by Troy Heinritz (The Blacklist Exposed, Under the Dome Radio) to discuss the film in detail. From their initial, spoiler-free, thoughts to their more detailed reactions to director Brad Bird's bold new world. Will families enjoy this? Did the minimal exposure to the actual film through marketing ultimately help or hurt the film? What did we think of Robertson, Clooney, and Hugh Laurie? Does the world electrify us in the way that Walt Disney and his films have so often managed to pull off? Most importantly - What are the critics missing on this one? All this, and much more, is discussed on this special episode. Tomorrowland is an explosion of imagination that reminds us of early Spielberg. Whether you enjoyed the film, disliked it, or maybe even are still debating seeing it - this discussion is for you! Movie marketing has changed exponentially over the last decade or two. Where a good film trailer used to just give you an idea of what a movie is about, now you can often time have an entire movie spoiled for you by the studios themselves before you even buy a ticket! Is this a good practice, or just a necessary one? Join in on the discussion and listen to this very topic on the latest episode of The Hollywood Outsider. For this special interview, Aaron sat down to talk to the director of the new documentary, “Misery Loves Comedy“, Kevin Pollak. Yes, THAT Kevin Pollak. You know the famous actor and comedian from classics such as “A Few Good Men” and “The Usual Suspects”, as well as his numerous other film and television credits, or possibly you know him from his own “Chat Show”, where Kevin speaks with other famous, creative talents. For our conversation, Kevin is here to discuss his new film, “Misery Loves Comedy”. What is his “Misery” about? Here is the official synopsis: Jimmy Fallon, Tom Hanks, Amy Schumer, Jim Gaffigan, Judd Apatow, Lisa Kudrow, Larry David, and Jon Favreau are among over 60 famous funny people featured in this hilarious twist on the age-old truth: misery loves company. In-depth, candid interviews with some of the most revered comedy greats who each share their unique path and a life devoted to making strangers laugh. With arresting anecdotes and insights from the comedy underbelly that reveal a performer’s deep desire to connect with audiences, Kevin Pollak’s MISERY LOVES COMEDY is the definitive master class on the art of humor that details a comedian’s rare ability to help us understand life as only they can. That is the official description. What we will tell you is that this is the closest we have ever been to truly understanding what makes a comic, a comic. Why would anyone want to spend every day of their lives trying to make someone else laugh? Were they always a comedian, or were they simply masking their pain? Finally, does a person have to be miserable, to be truly funny? This film answers all of those questions. Kevin and Aaron discuss “Misery Loves Comedy” in detail. From why Kevin wanted to make a film on such a personal topic, to some of the creative directions he chose for the film, and even how he managed to snag every high-profile comedian for the film! The film itself is a wonderfully insightful exploration into the psyche of a comedian. Of many comedians, in fact.weI highly recommend checking the film out, which is available now on iTunes and On Demand, and is releasing to theaters beginning April 24th. A charming guy and a brilliant talent, it was a pleasure to talk to Kevin about “Misery Loves Comedy”, and we hope you guys enjoy the interview as much as we did. Sometimes a film is more than a film. Other times a movie is simply something meant to cause you and your friends to laugh and scream. And then there are those films that make no sense, that somehow think they are smarter than everyone else, and some yahoo slaps the tag of 'Art' on them. We discuss these 'art' films this week, those movies people consistently remind you that you, in fact, 'do not get it'. Discussed on this episode of The Hollywood Outsider Movie and TV Podcast:
