Great movie plots gone wrong: those films with such a fantastic concept flawed execution

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we're talking about great movie plots that went wrong. These are ones we thought were great in concept, but the execution - whether it be in production or performances - made us a sad panda. We're looking at you,  Star Wars prequels, X-Men: The Last Stand,  and Lady in the Water to name a few. We discuss our favorite examples of a wasted opportunity, before debating several listener choices.

Also on this episode: spoiler-free reviews of Cherry, I Care A Lot, and The Vigil, and upcoming releases. And of course, we close out the episode with our weekly streaming recommendation - this week from VOD - before Troy Heinritz from The Blacklist Exposed joins us to discuss the recent rerelease of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in IMAX.

Where do you stand on "cancel culture" in entertainment? Is it holding celebrities accountable or are we too quick to jump?

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we're talking about the daily news section called "cancel culture" and whether entertainment has a cancel culture or image problem. To define cancel culture, cancel culture (or call-out culture) is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles - either online on social media, in the real world, or both. Those who are subject to this ostracism are said to be "canceled." Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming. For those at the receiving end of cancel culture, the consequences can lead to loss of reputation and income that can be hard to recover from. Gina Carano, Joss Whedon, Armie Hammer, Kevin Spacey and many more are discussed as we debate whether or not Hollywood, in fact, has a cancel culture problem.

Also on this episode: spoiler-free reviews of Silk Road, Tentacles, Judas and the Black Messiah, and To All the Boys: Always and Forever, and upcoming releases. Lastly, our "CANCEL IT!" segment has returned - fitting for this episode - where each host offers an old cliché in movies or TV that REALLY needs to be canceled (in a fun way).

What Defunct TV Shows Would You Like to See Make a Return as Movie Reboot?

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we're talking about those older television shows that are completely off-air and that we believe deserve a movie reboot. We’ve all seen this done a bazillion times – Baywatch, Spencer Confidential, countless others – what is it about long dead TV shows that make feature films so appealing to reboot them?

Also on this episode: spoiler-free reviews of Clarice (series), Sator, and Greenland - including another giveaway! Lastly, our "What Would've Happened" segment, where one host posits the scenario of "What would've happened if John Doe never turned himself in?", and the other hosts offer their theory on what how that would have changed the course of the film.

What films did you love at Sundance 2021? Or do you spend most of your time re-watching movies you love?

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we're talking about our favorite Sundance 2021 films (including Land) and the process as a whole with a virtual festival. We talk about a handful of those films that sat most with us before we jump into our From the Outside In topic about re-watching movies. Also on this episode: spoiler-free reviews of The Reckoning, The Little Things, and Land. Also, our "I Can't Believe We Thought That Was Cool" segment, where one host mentions a favorite film from their youth that now contains material that makes them very uncomfortable or is hilarious in hindsight. All this and much more on this week's episode!

In this episode of WandaVision AfterHO, we are discussing episode 4 "We Interrupt This Program" where Monica Rambeau, tasked with a special assignment regarding sentient weapons, goes missing. Finally, we have some answers (if you've been theorizing along with us, some of that has come to fruition) and, of course, new questions. How could this tie back to Inhumans? Fantastic Four? What do the hexagons mean? All that and more!
